Daniel Stavert Memorial Trophy - TODAY, Albyn Park, 2pmko

Today sees the annual Daniel Stavert Memorial Trophy taking place at the Albyn in memory of one of our own.  It is now 4 years since we tragically lost Daniel at a young age and today allows family and friends to come together to remember him through the medium of football, the game he loved.

Doors will be open to anyone who wishes to come down and support the teams today as they compete for the trophy as well as get involved in the charity raffles etc.  The family welcome all support from the community for this event.

Below are some images from last years event.

BUSC @ Outward Bound Trust

Last week 10 young volunteers, Aidan and James from BUSC,  travelled to Cumbria to sample learning in the outdoors. The purpose of the trip was to increase confidence and resilience and become an effective team player and leader. Under the guidance of our expert instructor Andrew from the Outward Bound Trust, we were introduced to gorge walking, an overnight expedition, pot holing and canoeing. While participating in these activities we recognised that our young people were learning and enjoying the environment. Our young people took part in classroom sessions, concentrating on planning, delivery, reviewing and  transferring the learning into the activity. This proved to be very successful and our young people displayed new skills while taking part in the activities, particularly when we climbed Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in England. This was a great achievement considering the scale of the climb ( 927 metres ) in the ever changing climate while carrying their shelter and supplies on their back. The climb started from a village called Glenridding and we walked the 5 mile to the top before setting up camp for the evening near to the summit. A great experience for the volunteers, a real test of endurance and it became apparent that our volunteers had a desire to achieve by displaying fantastic teamwork and leadership skills.

This was our first venture into this experience and we feel it was an excellent programme that our young people will benefit from enormously. Our young people have advocated that they would encourage others to take part in this course, as it involves great experiences and learning while having fun.

BUSC would like to thank everyone who has made this venture a success, all persons who  contributed via our donation cans, attended the haggis bash evening and or sponsored our volunteers who took part in our sponsored cycle.
